These days, the “Broadway in Hollywood” series of musicals in the ornate theater defines the Pantages experience. The splendid building has been a fixture in Los Angeles since vaudeville shows took to the stage in the 1930s and roadshow movies graced the screen into the 1970s. Restored in 2000, today the Hollywood Pantages Theatre is home to great Broadway musicals and other live performances. Opened in 1930 as simply the Pantages Theatre, the art deco style building hosted the Academy Awards in the 1950s and was once owned by the eccentric businessman Howard Hughes, who renamed it the RKO Pantages Theatre. In the heart of Hollywood’s most dazzling stretch of entertainment destinations, the Hollywood Pantages Theatre is a historic venue in a historic location. ![]()
